#GivingTuesdayNow Spotlight: Ben Thompson at Northeast Early College
Ben Thompson is a 2019 Give A Note Music Education Innovator Award recipient.
This video features music created by his students as well as some of their testimonials about the program.
Ben originally taught physics at Northeast Early College, an urban high school with a highly structured learning environment focused on rigorous academics, technology, and workforce readiness. Northeast had no music teacher or music education courses.
Ben’s students expressed an interest in creating music, so he turned his personal love of music and recording into teaching three levels of Audio Production Pathway courses at High Tech, combining 21st century technology skills and music composition.
“As a teacher I believe that the most effective way to learn stuff is by doing it, getting your hands dirty, exploring things, pressing buttons, and making mistakes.”
