2016 Music in Our Schools – Music Inspires Tour Kickoff Celebration at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, Walt Disney World Resort
On Saturday, March 19, Radio Disney and Give a Note Foundation will kick off the third annual Music in Our Schools Tour with performances by Radio Disney artist Carson Lueders and Radio Disney band Before You Exit. The six winning schools of Give a Note Foundation’s Music in Our Schools Tour will be introduced to more than 3,500 high school students who are attending Festival Disney – part of Disney Performing Arts, a national competitive music festival where top middle and high school instrumental and vocal ensembles compete with other groups from across the country. Give a Note Foundation and Radio Disney are finishing out the second half of Music in Our Schools Month® with a bang!
“Each of these six schools provides a snapshot of the great music programs operating all over the United States. This is an important story to tell about a future that is there for us to have if we provide for it,” said Give a Note board chair and president Beth Slusher. “These schools represent what happens when we allow students to work together in collaboration and learn empathy. We create the next generation of leaders prepared to bring about a better world for all of us. It is our hope that everyone will join us on this tour and celebrate what’s going on in these six schools, and afterward, look for ways they can support their own local music programs.”
“This is why Give a Note exists,” Slusher continued. “And we are grateful to Radio Disney for partnering with us in this worthy endeavor to shine a bright light on what’s going right in our schools today and what we need more of in schools across the nation.”

This year twelve schools competed for spots on the 2016 Music in Our Schools Tour. One school gave up the grant it was awarded – to another local school with greater need, in addition to inviting the runner-up school to the celebration concert. Another school has an exemplary music educator who gives of herself both to the profession of music education, sharing her best practices with colleagues nationwide, and in turn to her students, bringing that shared expertise back to the classroom each day. Moreover, all of these schools represent what is going right in education all around the nation – and needs to be supported, and replicated.
