2017 Music In Our Schools – Music Inspires Tour to Visit Rhode Island College April 7
This March-April Give a Note Foundation is hosting its fourth annual Music In Our Schools – Music Inspires Tour, and the ninth stop will be at Rhode Island College. This year along with Radio Disney and Radio Disney Country, the CMA Foundation is joining by matching grants to the six schools selected for the Tour – with a total of $30,000 to be presented to schools for their music programs.
Additionally, two Tri-M® Music Honor Society chapters (middle/high school students) and the colleges/universities of two collegiate National Association for Music Education (cNAfME) chapters that raised the most donations for Give a Note during last fall’s “Music Ed Matters” Chapter Challenge will be on the Tour. These stops feature check presentations from the winning student chapters to Give a Note Foundation, to help provide grants for more schools. These schools have also invited young students from local elementary and middle schools to join them in a performance and to enjoy a celebration concert by a Radio Disney or Radio Disney Country artist during the Tour stops at their schools.

“These presentations are wonderful ‘pay it forward’ moments,” said Give a Note President and Board Chair Beth Slusher. “I am so proud of these generous and hard-working students who have demonstrated what leading and serving look like.”
One of those winning collegiate chapters is at Rhode Island College, which will enjoy a concert with Radio Disney artist Sofia Carson, hosted by Radio Disney’s Candice.
“We understand that not every student has the resources or opportunities in their school that they should have. We wanted to help change that so every student has the music education that they deserve.”
“We chose to support Give a Note Foundation because our biggest focus for our chapter is giving back to the community,” shared Shannon Turner, president of the cNAfME chapter at Rhode Island College. “We understand that not every student has the resources or opportunities in their school that they should have. We wanted to help change that so every student has the music education that they deserve.”
Describing Rhode Island College cNAfME’s fundraising efforts, Shannon shared, “The Rhode Island College Wind Ensemble held a concert in memory of a music teacher from Rhode Island in December. We set up a table in the lobby for people to donate in a teacher’s name and had some giveaways for attendees. This gave us the opportunity to speak one-on-one with donors and discuss why Give a Note Foundation is such a great organization.”

- March 3: University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, MO (Collegiate winner)
- March 10: Collinsville High School, Maryville, IL (Tri-M winner)
- March 15: Salina South Middle School, Salina, KS
- March 17: Joliet Central High School, Joliet, IL
- March 24: Ramona High School, Riverside, CA
- March 29: Wenatchee High School, Wenatchee, WA
- April 5: James Otis Elementary, Boston, MA
- April 6: Marblehead High School, Marblehead, MA (Tri-M winner)
- April 7: Rhode Island College, Providence, RI (Collegiate winner)
- April 21: Tar River Elementary, Franklinton, NC
